AN OPEN INVITATION TO A CELEBRATION IN HONOUR OF THE LATE DON RICHARDS

The death of DON RICHARDS two months ago marked the end of a lifetime of dedicated service to football, to sport and to the wider community by a passionate and principled person who asked little but gave his all.

The name of Don Richards is synonymous with the Clarewood Football Club that he proudly guided to many of its successes.  Don was one of its proud founder members and was honored with life membership in recognition of his loyalty and passion.

The success of the legendary Cape Town Spurs Football Club is another prize achievement of Don Richards.  Under his management Cape Town Spurs delighted soccer followers across our country with a brand of entertaining football that packed sports grounds wherever they played.

Don was also one of the sports activists who founded the W.P. Council Sport.  He served as one its first Secretary’s.  WEPCOS played an active and leading role in the fight against racialism in sport and society.  Don was intimately linked to the slogan – “No Normal Sport In An Abnormal Society.

A memorial to celebrate this remarkable life of unselfish community service and particularly his legendary contribution to local football will be held at the BELTHORN CIVIC HALL, Belgravia Road, Lansdowne on SUNDAY 23 MAY 2010 starting at 15h00.  An open invitation is extended to all.
